Oklahoma | How many college graduates are going back home to farm in your area?
I am not from the corn belt, but I know of less than a dozen people I went to college with that actually got to go home and farm. I only knew of 2 friends that were actively farming on their own and planning on going back to farm on their own. The other 10 or so we going back to take over parents operation. Lots of jobs in ag outside of tractor driver or cowboy. I know of several classmates of mine that are now in vet med or human medicine and even a couple in law. Then there are of course all the people that job degrees in ag but are now working in corporate america. One of my best friends is a high up with the Coca Cola Corp in a regional office with an Ag Econ degree.
Most people in Ag at least in our area, know they aren't getting a job running a tractor or pushing cows. | |
