Colorado and Oz
Private RTK networks will be relevant for some time yet - even in Iowa. Most of the "installed" RTK equipment relies on highly proprietarize and branded matching of RTK calculations and correction packets. In the big picture, RTK networks are loss leaders for the far more valuable "other" parts and their maintainence. The geographic delay in having very high quality RTK that is also essentially free will depend on the political issues of provision of a public service over the capitalistic designs of private investment. Because Iowa has done it does not follow that Nebraska or Illinois will? But at some point, the issues of public benefit will likely outweigh that of the private in this case - Iowa seems to understand this. Having been though a recent evaluation of an RTK network, I have to come down on the side of Leica over that of Deere or Trimble. But precision steerage is not independent of RTK branding... yet.
