Subject: RE: Lumber strength

Mid Michigan
Von, my dad just rebuilt a gravity box this summer and he came home with two beautiful oak timbers he had cut at our local saw mill. They were very heavy and very strong. Just two on the box and it had 210 bushels of wheat on it several times already. They are very strong. A lot of the bridges around here were all hardwood decks with I beams underneath until about the mid eighties. County trucks and farm tractors driving over them all day long. If you have a lumber mill close by drive over there and ask them what they could do for some oak deck boards. Would have to be painted but they are very strong and relatively cheap. Good luck.
