I have heard two things about consumables and plasma cutters. One, moisture is death on them, which you knew. The other is that not all plasma machines are created equal when it comes to consumables. Some tend to consume a lot more than other brands. Of course a salesman told me that so maybe he was just trying to sell me his. We have a Lincoln and we go through a few consumables but it does not seem horribly bad.
