Subject: Re: 20" vs 30" rows

Bob, there are a few farmers around us who jave gone to 15" rows for corn. Seems only the big boys plant 20" rows around here though. We tried planting about 120 acres of 15" corn 2 years ago using our splitrow planter and harvesting with a 30" row cornhead. I feel that we did a good job of harvesting as I could find very little corn on the ground, no more than would have been there if it would have been in 30" rows. One field yielded 19bpa less in 15" & the other was about 1 bpa more.

I personally think that 20" would be better than 15s in corn but don't want to give up the 15" beans, though we are going to plant some 30" beans this year. For now in corn we will stick with the 30" & push are populations. Last year we planted the bulk of our corn in the 36-37,000 range & will bump that about 1,500 ppa this year.
