I think most research shows it is more likely to be of benefit if you are in the northern corn belt,( north of I 80). There has not been a positive response to 15" or 20" rows here in central Indiana. I did a test plot by doubling back with a 30" row planter and used a 30" row corn head. Did a fairly good job harvesting it. Yield was 15 bushels less (gleaned) in 15" rows--no-tilled, so compaction was less of an issue than if it were conventionally tilled. You might consider trying that method on a trial basis. I would guess it would pay you in Minnesota if you are doing a good job of raising corn otherwise and needed to upgrade your planting and harvesting equipment. You might find some decent used equipment in beet country, but it may be 22" equipment.
