Subject: What is the necessary pop increase to benefit?

I have been studying 18" row corn and soybean and 36" row cotton and peanuts. Twin rowed a few acres last year and believe I had less head loss due to the ears flexing and having more girth. I think on our coastal plains sandy soil narrow row would have the advantage. I have recently purchased 2 643 heads from a state sale and the heads are in excellent shape. I have thought of building a 12row 18 head out of them. I normally plant 25K pop on 36", should I be looking to increase to 28-30K on twin or 18" row. Our yields vary between 125-180bpa dryland dependent on the growing conditions. I am pleased with our yields, but I am always looking to push the yields higher if possible.
