I think that since 1966, the first year of "modern era" DST, growing seasons have been drier. That extra hour of daylight at the end of the day is tough in a dry year. If they had left it alone, or put the extra hour in the morning, crops would be better able to keep from drying out so bad without an extra summer hour of high temperatures and sunshine.....
