Subject: 6 litre Chevy pickup vs 5.3

Why is it that the 6 litre Chevy is so much worse on fuel than the 5.3? I thought it was basically the same engine. The 5.3 is I believe the best on fuel of all the manufacturers and wouldn't think there should be as great as difference as everyone says. I used to get 19 mpg with my 5.3 on a long drive. I have never had a 6 litre but most on this forum say they get 12-13 on the average, few guys say 15 on a drive. Doesn't make sense to me, what is the deal?
