Nevada, Iowa | Just for the record, My 89 9500 had chrome in it when I got it in 96. I had no idea what I had except I started to suspect when the bars just didn't seem to wear. It had about 3200 hrs. on it when I broke a gathering chain/belt on a row crop head and sent it thru the cylinder. It buggered things up enough to warrant replacement. Insurance was going to cover a bunch of it so I had the local dealership do the work. It was then that I was amazed to find out that those bars were the original bars!! Now I am like you, I can't do beans without finding a small stone in the trap. We dump the trap every night and 9 times out of 10 will find a rock in it. Seems like we always have a bit of downed corn and that's when we get the big ones. I can't say the chrome bars caused any unusual chipping issues that I was aware of, but I am probably not as fussy as most.
One other thing on a different note, throw your filler plates away while you're in there :) | |
