Our experiance with St Johns mirrors yours, PB. Just bolted a "new" rebuilt one in a few weeks ago. We got excellant life out of the last one, I can't remember how many hours now. Many for sure. No comparison to the original Deere for double sure. We were just starting to see some chipping- well maybe gouging- in a couple of spots. Had something go through the machine a year ago that raised heck with the bars, the concave, the beater grate, and the straw chopper. No one knows anything about what happened, of course. Anyway, we knew we were probably on borrowed time but ran the concave one more year anyway.

We've ran stock bars, then chrome, then Trimpe's on a 7720. When we got the 9500, we eneded up going the same rotation. In our case, the chrome bars seemed to break fairly easily (rather than bend) when they got worn some. We get along real well with the Trimpe's. We've NEVER had the filler plates in this combine, no clue how it effects (if anything) bar performance and wear.
