Hey Josh, I seeded barley last spring into alfafla ground that had been desicated the previous summer. It was extremely rough, moles, gophers, rocks, etc. I did a spring burnoff, then about 4 days later I went in with one of those pasture floats (Flaman rents those 36' ones) and smoothed it out. Worked awesome, and then no-tilled in the barley the next day. It helps to have a bucket on the tractor for picking rocks. Those floats will pull out rocks and skid them along, making a big groove.
I realize that you are seeding conventionaly, but I think floating the field first would make seeding go much better.
I also have a 41' rite way land roller, and I use it for rolling my pea land after seeding. Makes for much better harvest. Pounds those rocks down, so that the lifter guards don't flip them up into the header. I've never used it on other crops, as we no-till seed and I don't want to ruin the furrow and knock over the stubble.
