Subject: both have good and bad points

Chilliwack, British Columbia
We have both a feedbunk, and a flat floor feed alley for our dairy cattle.
Pros of the flat floor: easy to cleanup waste feed, pushing up helps to keep feed fresher, can be cheaper to install.
Cons: have to push feed up several times a day, we do a minimum of 5 times, would'nt hurt to do it more often.

Pros of feed bunk: if not pouring an alley way for the truck to drive on, maybe cheaper to install, do not have to push feed up all day.
Cons of feed bunk: if feeding a high silage diet once a day on a warm day, feed can start to spoil on the bottom. High hay/grain diets shouldn't have this problem. Animals throwing feed overtop could also be a problem, as well as having a wall will limit how much feed you can put into the bunk, if lots of hay, will fill bunk easily.

Hope that makes sense,
and good luck
Glenn
