Subject: RE: feed bunks regular or dairy style

Chilliwack BC
It appears that dairy cows will throw feed over the bunk if there is a wall there. It is easier to push feed in than throw it back over a 2 ft wall. Most dairy's push feed in with a snow shovel, or a blade on a lawn mower, 4-wheeler or loader. We used to have a bunk in the stanchion barn though, but if you fed hay in it, half of it would end up on the other side of the bunk. Feedlots all seem to use bunks though.
