Last fall we experimented with 40 acres of HRW wheat. We sprayed 10 gallons of 28% after taking the Navy's off, then feild cultivated, then rented our neighbors old JD 15' drill and planted "arapaho" (SP?) variety close to 2 bushel per acre. It came great through the winter, but April almost nipped its booty. Spread urea in May, around 50 pounds worth, and harvested 65 bu per acre with AWESOME straw that the dairy guys paid good money for. This was on some ground that is in the lower 10% in quality for our traditional corn and soys. Some guys say we should put some p&k before planting? They also said to spray headline, and then folicure later? Were putting in 115 acres in the next few weeks as soon as the Navy's come off, so any good advice from you fairly northun ers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for any advice, or info on how you do it! PS:Thanks to Ontario Otis and Luke Skywalker for their advise last year, that 40 has never returned the numbers it did this year. Maybe the force was with us? |
