Get rid of the self feeders.  They are convenient but costing you a lot of extra feed.



I figured with a ruminant animal they would be better off being able to eat a small meal whenever they want, maybe 8 to 10 smaller meals in a 24 hour period, instead of 2 large meals in that same 24 hour period. An ADM nutritionist told me feeding twice a day like that was called "slug feeding" and that to do it that way was "playing with fire." The stuffers are very convenient, and since I don't live at the farm yet, they make it a lot easier for me. I also just bought a new (used) steer stuffer!
