Your kent pellets are made out of some kind of by-product, ask your feed man what the main ingredient is and theirs your answer. I thought the main benefit to selling freezer beef was to guarantee a profit are you hitting the top of what people are willing to pay if so what is the top?
I figured there was some sort of binding agent in the pellets that came from a bi-product or something like that. As far as what I charge, I'm at $2 per pound of hanging weight and the customer pays processing. I don't know of anyone who charges more for freezer beef than I do, at least locally. On a good sized calf, a half of beef can run $800 before processing. My calves were smaller this past year because I didn't get as much finish on them before processing since corn was so high, or so I thought! I'm going to feed them a little longer this year, hopefully that will result in more product. |
