I am sure I should just learn to "mentally ignore" things like you say. Around here you are probably right, more cows in the hands of part time farmers than full time. Alot of diversity in this area and it makes for a nice community. Went to a cow sale last night. 500 plus bred cows. Their background was as diverse as the buyers. With all of the talk of cow effciency it was interesting to watch 1400-1500 lbs cows bring top dollar. I think we all want small profitable cows but for most those big cows look like they will raise big healthy calves for years to come and that makes them sell good even if the numbers dont show them being the most profitable.

I met a guy last spring. He was from down in the corner of Missouri. Raised cattle and had a small sawmill, ring any bells. Super nice guy but I cant remember what the name of his hometown was but he talked about going to sales in Joplin and Rolla I believe. Was kinda wondering how he fared in that bad weather.
