Grafting can be done this winter. Before the buds begin to swell this spring probably Feb. you can cut some new (last years wood) growth. Wrap it up and put it in the refrigerator. Get a rootstock of about the same diameter. Cut both pieces at an angle so they fit as well as possible. You are trying to match up the bright green layer under the bark. If they don't fit all the way around don't center the smaller piece. If they fit good half way around it will probably live. Tape them up and place them back in cold storage for at least 2 weeks. Even though dormant they will knit together. Plant this spring. Good luck. Don G
