the place your food comes from- IOWA |
Or any church for that matter.
From the sister-in-law-gettin hitched thread below.
I see a couple of other gentlemen had similar experiences as I, so I thought I would ask what others think.
I don't know of any other church that does this.
After years of Baptisms, weddings, funerals, Sunday school, catechism, confirmations, Christmas programs...etc.y
I was kind of unimpressed by how they handled this.
Apparently there is an unwritten policy that pretty much amounts to :
If you don't show up, they come knockin' on the door.
An Unannounced visit is never appreciated and
I found it odd and unnerving as well as intrusive as opposed to " caring about my soul ".
I was in my early 20's and living in another city, and would come home to my parents maybe twice / yr and on one of those occasions, about 8 PM , there is a knock on the door from a farmer /neighbor who was a church elder.
I was too young and much too polite then, so I let him sit at the Kitchen Table for 2 hours telling me about my wayward ways.
My only response was: Would Jesus say : Come now, Come soon & come often or we may kick you out; OR would he say the door is open whenever you are ready; No matter what.
The church felt # 1 was the answer, so I left.
No regrets.
