Leesburg, Ohio | How is it that corn ethanol does not reduce our dependence on foreign oil? Note that we are not talking elimination of using foreign oil...if that's what you mean, I agree. But 15 or 20 or 40 billion gallons of ethanol is exactly that much less foreign oil used here. So how is that not a reduction?
Also there are many reasons corn is used for ethanol, and the corn surplus is only one. The facts that corn provides the most energy-intense easily produced, easily transported feedstock, and when harvested for grain, leaves behind a substantial amount of nutrients and organic matter to improve the soil, are among the other reasons.
I would comment more on cellulosic, but am not comfortable responding to the original post that seems like someone unwilling to identify themselves fishing for information.
