Subject: RE: Put a couple good gentle lead cows

New Mexico
with em.

AND spend some time out there...say walk thru em slowly a couple / three times a day.
If they tend to bunch up at the back of the pens...just take a couple slabs of grass hay in about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way drop em, and retreat.

Object is to slowly reduce their "flight zone" distance.

If you were running a donkey or lamas with the cows and calves this summer, bring those in and put em with the calves.

One of the backgrounding lots here who does nothing else but start those 300 to 400 lb calves, walks the fresh ( incoming ) calf pens 2 to 4 times per day for a couple weeks.

What that does is, gentles the cattle makes em feel at home etc.

Kind of a pain to feed on the ground...but you can just run a string of hay, sprinkle some grain on top...then they get pretty dependant on you for feed wich helps alot.

Maybe put a wood bunk out there if you have one.

If your other calves are good and gentle...mix em if possible.
Generally it's "gentle" that overcomes, not visa versa.

That with the couple lead cows etc mentioned afore will bring em down.
