| Metal feed bunks are particularly bad for spooky newly weaned calves. It's worse when calves don't yet understand feed bunk "etiquette". All it takes if for a calf to climb in the bunk and then slip and fall. The resulting commotion can really set off the rest of them. Wood bunks are not as bad. I don't have any wood bunks left. I have shallow Vern's 16' bunks.
The round bottom steel bunks are the worst, and can be a death trap. I would not buy a round bottom feed bunk.
I spooked the calves myself last week when I started up the tractor next to the corral to go get them another bale. It was a cold morning and the tractor smoked and made a lot of noise getting going. | |
