Driftless SW Wisconsin

Ben, I amnot really sure what my carrying capacity is. I think this year I could go 1 pair per acre with intensive rotation and the rain we've had.  and that is the big difference between irrigation and waiting for a rain....irrigation may be expensive but it is consistent and reliable. Last year it dried up after July 4th...

My grazing season is about May 1 to early November. I buy my winter hay needs. I am looking to eventually build to one pair per acre with hay as a backup. Processing steers in April cuts my grazing needs compared to keeping them until fall.

JR, I would be concerned about grazing corn at ear set...mine are not ever going into corn until the corn is mature, and probably after a hard frost. But the professor obviously knows more about it than I do. It would be interesting to hear his talk on grazing standing corn.
