Driftless SW Wisconsin
Ben, this paddock needed lime about 3 yrs ago, 3 ton at about $12 or somewhete in that range. Since this is my winter paddock the cows have spread enough manure where the soil tests good fertility with no more fert applied. This paddock will be grazed 4 times between May and Nov. Probably mow it after 2 and drag it after 2. What does it cost to run a mower? $20/a? Drag is probably $12/a. Maybe $70/a/yr. In return it probably doubles the cow days grazing and stocking rate compared to not doing anything even in rot grazing - if we get the rain needed. Very effective if not perfect weed control. That has value. Thanks for the kind words. Also Roy. Jim at Dawn
