Subject: Re: freezer beef

Driftless SW Wisconsin

I know I don't feed mine "worth a crap" but the grazing corn seems to be working for animals to be processed. "Working" at least by my definition.

My main problem is age - I'm harvesting them earlier than most.

I picked up some of my grazed corn finished beef at one processor earlier this week and it looks good. I will try some this weekend myself.

If I put them on a steer stuffer with straight grain corn I could probably get their weights up at 12 months when I would like to harvest. Grazing the standing corn they obviously take in a lot more than just grain. There are other advantages to the grazing standing corn - no harvest, hauling, drying or feeding involved.

I'll know more when I get feedback about the beef from the group just processed.
