| Jim I agree in my experience there is really no difference in the quality of beef between Hereford and Angus. It's hard to go wrong with either breed in that respect. The difference is Angus has done a superior job of marketing their product to the public.
I do see the benefit of heterosis because it is the only "free lunch" in the livestock business. Everyone likes a baldy. Provided they are all equal quality genetics, a terminal crossbred will outperform a straight bred animal every time.
That said, I have been breeding Hereford back to Hereford trying to build up my cow herd with straight Hereford cows. When I get restocked, I plan to bring in black Angus bulls again in order to sell crossbred steers and replacement quality heifers.
