Subject: bathtub surround in old farm house

I don't know much about construction so bear with me if this is a dumb question. Is it necessary for the walls to be perpendicular to one another and perpendicular to the floor for a pre-built tub surround (three wall) to work well or not? We live in an old farm house and I don't think it was square when it was built who knows how many years ago, much less now. I figure there are people on this forum that have had to deal with this type of decision from time to time. I'm trying to use it as a learning experience since I haven't done hardly any construction work. Any pointers? Thanks.
