| We use an old anhydrous tank off a 5 shank applicator with a propane burner to scald the hogs. Started off using wood fire to heat the water and it was a real PITA. Took along time to get the water hot, hard to hold the temp right and ate a lot of smoke. Is a lot better with the propane and also use an old burner from a furnace to heat the lard kettle.
Has been a lot of hillbilly engineering over the years in the equipment. May try to get some pics of the equipment, may be interesting to see.
