My understanding is that they hook a computer to the car while it is running and cause the oil to go backwards in the system to help remove any particles. So now the filter has now caught the particles during this flush. The computer process takes 5 or 10 min. The filter is then changed and the oil topped off.
GM does the 7,500 mile flush/filter change to for free to all C8 Corvettes.
