Those gearboxes are about a 1000 to 1500 hour gearbox before the seals give out. If you catch it in time and put the seals in it isn't too pricey. If you run it dry or with the incorrect lubricant you will need a lot more than seals and be spending $1000 to $1200 for a gearbox. If it just started leaking, take it off and put seals in it. If it has been leaking for a while or run dry you don't have a lot to lose by pumping it full of corn head grease but that grease isn't made for those rpms.
