Other than the possibility of destroying the entire box instead of just replacing a seal and maybe a bearing.
Unless you're a custom lawn care business with the phone ringing off the hook of people wanting their lawn mowed "right now" I think I'd go ahead and fix it the right way, its not even April yet.
