south central WI | Subsidies are public info. It was OK when farmer looked poor and lived that way. Now many farmers have nice houses and new vehicles (not all, but it only takes a couple to make it seem that way). They can see that person has received 6 or 7 figures in subsidies, so they think the govt paid for everything. In reality, if the subsidies were removed, farmers might be in almost the exact same financial situation. We seem to bid the extra profit out of most things, so govt funds probably mostly end up in higher rents. | |
