Did you timed breed everybody or only breed who exhibited heat? Also how far ahead of breeding did you put them on grass? I assume you have harder grass in your part of Nebraska than we have in the springtime in Iowa, but if the grass is really lush, taking cows from a high DM feed wagon ration and turning them onto lush grass can actually create a negative energy balance. If that occurs in the 2-3 weeks prior to AI work, your results could be affected.

Edit to add: I have read where pulling the calves off helps with cows exhibiting estrous, but do not know anyone who has ever done it.
