Subject: RE: Preparing for lower prices

I would not get too crazy about buying cows, my thumb rule is never pay more for a cow then the value of 2 calves, when they are crazy high like now I would not go mover 1-1/2 calf value, buy cows not open heifers IMO, Do not buy fancy cows , buy cows from someone who is harder on them then you are, if you buy an ugly cow cheap not really a big deal, just do not keep the calves, when you sell her by the pound it will not make much difference. I guess if you have some nice looking heifers you like I would keep a few more back since you are trying to build your numbers even though they are high and as said above pay off some debt if you have any, can never go wrong with less or no debt. Improving your infrastructure some may be OK, but keep in mind when prices drop things you buy probably will also get cheaper.
