Western Ontario | Not sure where you are located and that matters. There’s always lots of talk of selling all your female’s at the top and buying back bargain basement ones at the bottom and that’s kind of how I started but bought a lot of problems too. We’ve been fortunate that for about the last 10 years we’ve just been working with our own replacements. Breed a few more than you plan on keeping but just expose them for 25 days, only keep heifers that were born in the first 3 weeks of your calving season. Build a herd and a reputation for quality feeder calves and your life will be way more enjoyable than screwing around with somebody else’s problems….I’ve got the t shirt. | |
