There’s always lots of talk of selling all your female’s at the top and buying back bargain basement ones at the bottom and that’s kind of how I started but bought a lot of problems too. We’ve been fortunate that for about the last 10 years we’ve just been working with our own replacements. Breed a few more than you plan on keeping but just expose them for 25 days, only keep heifers that were born in the first 3 weeks of your calving season. Build a herd and a reputation for quality feeder calves and your life will be way more enjoyable than screwing around with somebody else’s problems….I’ve got the t shirt. | |
