central Virginia | My wife trains horses. She buys very little alfalfa. Only feed it to horses that have a hard time maintaining body condition. Hay is given to horses to keep them from eating the barn and fencing. Minimal nutrition is expected from the hay. No weed, dust or mold makes good horse hay. These are high performance horses not pasture rats or trail ponies.
The reason I bring all that up is how do you keep weeds under control with a legume and grass in the same field? Every weed in the bale will be left in the hay bag. | |
