| im not familiar with any soybean embargo against japan. mr peanut embargoed grain going to the soviets in 1980, one of the causes of the so-called farm crisis in the 80s
The United States grain embargo against the Soviet Union was enacted by US President Jimmy Carter in January 1980 in response to the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. The embargo remained in effect until Ronald Reagan ended it in 1981 upon taking the office of president.

what we have currently (1 month of low prices, slightly below c.o.p.) is painful, it will be a sad situation when the real blood letting takes place. china will buy beans from brazil or the cheapest supply in the world, for the same reason us consumers buy chinese made products over the better quality usa products that cost more. if we produced beans cheaper than brazil, then china would be buying from us. brazilian farmers arent paying $500 rents and the input suppliers give them sweetheart deals on seed, chemical and machinery.
its like cheap hog prices, if consumers ate more pork and supply went down, then more hog barns would come up. low hog and commodity prices will always be with us, most of the time. just have to deal with it. | |
