Ft. Ripley MN | We plant 30,000. Actual stand will be 29-30,000. This past year we had stands down to 27,000 due to dry dirt at germination. We farm light ground and some gets gravely.
Between wintering cows and spreading manure we try to cover most silage acres. All pen pack.
Most years we are 17-18 ton/acre for yields. I know low spots will push 25 ton pretty easily. We weigh wagons at the beginning of the year and keep track of load counts. Don’t do crop insurance or combine so can’t say bushels wise. You do need alot of corn in your silage to push tonnage as that’s where a lot of the weight comes from.
First year for kernel counts and they varied from 160-235 bushels. Actual is probably lower the that
Put starter on with the planter otherwise that’s it… haven’t side dressed the last few years do to lack of rain | |
