The CSR 1 numbers from NW IA were penalized do to our drier climate. And in the case of some soil types with limited water holding capacity, rightfully so.
CSR 2 removed the penalty for being in a drier climate. That is why there are huge discrepancies between the two ratings.
If the price was similar, I’d take the Sioux Co ground every time. To put it in the words of one of the now deceased old timers from here “That is some goooood dirt.” Those are the soil types that you like to watch the yield monitor on.
But, the Grundy Co land might be 1/2 to 2/3 price of the Sioux Co land.
Yup, I’d estimate 2/3. On a dollars per CSR point basis, the Grundy land makes so much more sense. Those guys plant 110-114 day varieties, that’s a leading contributor to exceptional yields us guys in the polar north can’t comprehend very well.
