Southern IA | those look like good clean square fields and pretty decent yielding ground for the price. Future generations are really going to appreciate whoever secured that land for the future. I'd rather swallow the pill paying that for good consistent easy farming ground than 8,000 per acre to farm the same dirt around lots of border obstructions, tree lined finger draws to farm around and washouts that need lots of dry dams to hold the dirt in place. You have to buy it when it is for sale, it isn't on offer at walmart to go in and buy at the timing of your choice when the sales are happening. If you're buying land based on the crop prices on the day of the sale you'll likely be living in the peanut gallery most your life farming aunt margaret's ground and paying the real estate taxes for rent. | |
