Anyone have some good info on how to correct it? Wife had a test yesterday and has high blood sugar. Had it last pregnancy also. Thanks for any advice or resources.

We have 13 kids (all ours) and GD with at least half. Sometimes it doesn’t matter what you do to try and control it with diet. The kid growing inside will steal all the insulin her body is making if her pancreas is being over taxed.

You really don’t want GD to be out of control for too long. The kid will grow too big and she won’t be able to have a vaginal birth. There is also a lot of stress put on her internal organs. If she needs shots for a while to control the GD then so be it. This will help prevent any permanent damage after the kiddo is born.

The ONLY way to have any control, and this was for my wife, was to eat fat only. Nothing, meaning absolutely nothing, with any carbs in it. MOST people can’t do this for long. They eat things that have natural carbs that they don’t realize. Protein can be turned into glucose in the liver. Fat can not.

It is honestly better for her to eat a healthy diet with healthy carbs and control blood sugar using shots. Your child will be healthier when it arrives.

Her doctors will freak out if she has elevated ketones. They won’t believe you can do that with diet alone. They will 100% think she is entering ketoacidosis and put her in the hospital.

When it comes to pregnancy you have two people to care for. Sometimes what an adult can do to control blood sugar with diet is not what should be done for the child.
