Subject: RE: Land rent etiquette

Iowa
We've been on both sides of the changing tenants deal.

Dad had a landowner approach him 25 years ago to rent a farm. Long story short we found out real quick why the landlord and the previous tenant couldn't get along.

We've also given up farms because the rent was too high we felt and the landlord found someone else (they always do). Never really had any hard feeling about the new guy. It was our decision to give it up after all and if we weren't going to make any money anyway- who cares?.

Had one farm we gave up/ new guy farmed it 2 years and gave it up. We visited afterwards and they made the comment "we should have known there was a reason you gave it up". We're on good terms with one another.

90% of the time unless the tenant dies or retires- rented land changes hand because the landlord and the tenant can't come to an agreement on the price around here anyway.

Good luck to you. You sound like a fair person.
