71 is relatively young age. I agree on maybe the depression. My dad is 87 and was always alittle hard on machinery so hasn’t done much field work in probably 10 years. Our salvation has been his Bobcat Toolcat. Easy to get in and out of, various attachments, can load easy on his trailer. He always has a project going, always doing something. He doesn’t have any hobbies but loves picking rocks and keeps different farm yards mowed. It has been a blessing both for us and Dad. Winter is hard to keep him busy.
