NW Iowa | I would hope that those who have served in those capacities would stand and be recognized so that others, especially those still in high school, would be inspired to follow in their footsteps. I graduated high school in '69. There were some lively discussions about the Vietnam War. My classmates mostly thought that we should be there and believed in the domino theory. Yet out of 52 of us, I was one of only four that served in the military. That still chafes me some to this day. If my participating in any type of recognition causes them to feel a little guilty, so much the better. Maybe they will confess that to their kids and grandkids some day. To those who are truly expressing a heartfelt thanks, I say you are welcome. I'd do it all over again. | |
