The Keys are not really kids friendly. Not a lot of public beach area for swimming, and the weather can be too cool for water sports.Very expensive. Consider a Bahamas cruise, no passport needed if you go by boat.Very inexpensive at times, some are geared for kids.
We have been quite a few times to the Bahamas and have always had to have passports. Small charter boat leaving from Miami though. Boat would cross during the night, show up in Bahamian waters in early morning, and captain would take dingy to customs with all our passports for clearance. Don't know about big boats like cruise ships. Maybe they are different.
