Hollow point won't ruin the gun barrel but will sure ruin the hide when it comes out the other side of the coon!
I don't save the pelts from them here so have been using some .22lr CCI segmented hollow points, those break up into 3 pieces when they expand so certainly going to do a lot of damage.
