Time to pay has little to do with staying in business as long as one is properly capitalized. What is important is getting enough for your work to cover expenses, including interest and a decent profit.
I will say when I started out some times I had to go haul a cheap load that I could collect on today to buy the fuel for the good load that took 60 days. I had to do that because I was severely under capitalized.
Some guys will haul the cheap stuff so they get paid quicker thinking they are making more money.
Same as the guys who give up 10% to a factoring company.
