Well, they got you fooled!

They have become the polar opposite of what the company was when I hired on a bit over 30 years ago. I've no regrets having walked out the door a bit over four years ago.

As for the long trains, they're basically coupling multiple trains together and if I have to guess, the intermediate locomotives act as radio relay stations from the head end to the locomotive or EOT (FRED) at the rear of the train so that power or braking is applied uniformly.

The economics are such that by coupling two trains together they just halved their crew costs.
