The residue mat that I left (corn stalks) is still intact and holding moisture, in these unbelievable blast furnance winds today. But the residue mat is also holding the moisture. THis was the first year of mellow soils for as dry and windy we have had. No hard clay soils needing moisture to soften before planting. Guys that did spring tillage are suffering - lumps and dried out germ profile . . .
